Hair & Nail Salons Health Hazards Recent news stories on health hazards in the personal care industry have brought attention to these problems and NYS Governor Cuomo and advocates across the country are planning action to address these issues.
Protecting Workers from the Effects of Heat At times, workers may be required to work in hot environments for long periods. When the human body’s unable to maintain a normal temperature, heat-related illnesses can occur and may result in death. This fact sheet provides information to employers on measures they should take to prevent worker illnesses and death caused by heat stress.

Mold Molds are the most common forms of fungi found on earth. They can grow on almost any material, as long as moisture and oxygen are available. Most molds reproduce through the formation of spores, tiny microscopic cells that are resist-ant to drying and are released into the air.
Workplace Violence Workplace violence is violence or the threat of violence against workers. It can occur at or outside the workplace and can range from threats and verbal abuse to physical assaults and homicide, one of the leading causes of job-related deaths.
Young Workers Most youth find paid employment, either during the summer or year-round, before graduating from high school. Young workers, ages 14-24, are at risk of workplace injury because of their inexperience at work and their physical, cognitive, and emotional developmental characteristics.

Filing Whistleblower Complaints under the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act     Employees who work for motor vehicle manufacturers, part suppliers, and dealerships are protected from retaliation for reporting alleged violations of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1966 (Chapter 301 of Title 49 of the United States Code).
Perfumes and fragrances used in personal care products, cleaning products, and air fresheners in the workplace can cause or trigger asthma. They contain many different chemicals, including several known to cause asthma, even in people who have never had asthma before.
